Bret Warnack


Coach Warnack is in his 26th year as a teacher and coach in the Denton Independent School District. This will be Warnack’s 21st year as the Head Baseball Coach at Ryan High School. Warnack served as an assistant coach and pitching coach at Ryan High School for 5 years, before becoming the head coach for the 2000 season.

Coach Warnack, who has lived in Denton since 1977, graduated from Denton High School in 1989 where he played under Coach Tommy Blair. Warnack played short stop in high school and received a scholarship to Navarro Junior College where he pitched and played in the infield in 1990 and 1991. After leaving Navarro, he received a scholarship to the University of Texas San Antonio where he pitched for two years. While finishing his Bachelor’s degree in 1994 at UTSA, he was a student assistant coach on a Roadrunner team which received a berth to a regional tournament of the College World Series with a record of 39-16.

During his tenure as the Raider head coach, the Ryan baseball program has compiled a 354-263 record, won 7 District Championships, and 47 playoff games, advanced to the Bi-District Finals of the State Playoffs in 2005, 2011, 2016, 2018, 2019, Area Finals in 2009, regional quarterfinals in 2000, 2001, 2007, and 2008, the regional semifinals in 2002 and 2012, and on to the State Finals in 2003 and 2004, finishing as the 4A state runner up in 2003 and 2004. Also during his tenure as head coach, the Raider baseball program has seen a total of 65 Raider Baseball players go on to play college baseball. Five of those have been chosen into the Major League Baseball draft and opted to attend college, and 4 have been Drafted and signed by Major League organizations. Former Ryan H. S. 2005 graduate, and outfielder Austin Jackson completed 9 Major League Baseball seasons as an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs. Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets. 2004 Ryan H.S. graduate Javier Guerra is currently in his 10th Major League season, with stints in the big leagues with the LA Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays, and Washington Nationals. Additionally, former 2011 Graduate Nash Knight should begin the 2019 season in either AA or AAA at with the Toronto Blue Jays Organization.

Coach Warnack and his wife Jennifer have been married for 23 years. Their daughter Brynn attends McMurry University where she plays Volleyball. Their son Bryce attends Ryan High School and is a member of the Ryan Baseball Program.
